Cleverly Hidden Kitchen Storage Solution

In my kitchen like many people, I have a run of cupboards along one wall that doesn’t quite extend the full length of that wall.  I found it really irritating to have to write off this spare space by just fitting a blanking panel in the gap.  I kept thinking and thinking what could I do to make this space part of my kitchen and I just couldn’t figure out what I could actually do with it until I contacted a company who came up with what I think is a really novel solution.

Andy who runs the company AB Interiors came round to have a look at the space and when I explained how frustrating I found it to just have it wasted, he suggested that I have a hidden storage cupboard there instead of just a blanking plate.  Inside it, I could have a shelf at the top for things like my iron and dustpan, and below a nice tall space where I could keep my broom, mop and ironing board.

The space was just wide enough to take all these things with ease, and it’s brilliant to not have to have my ironing board in particular hanging around anywhere else – after all what do you do normally with such an unwieldy item? I guess most of us just throw it under the stairs in with all the other odds and ends eh.

From the outside, the panel looks exactly as it did before, but a cleverly hidden magnetic catch means I can press in the right spot and it pings open revealing my hidden storage space inside.  All my friends have been entranced by it, and I’m sure if I ever come to sell the house it’ll be one of the features that people will enjoy seeing.

I think the next space I may have to look at doing something about will be my under-stairs cupboard as I’m sure there’s a lot of wasted space down in the back corners of it, though I may have to call Andy in to take a look and make a recommendation for me, he’s got so many clever ideas that I’m pretty certain he could come up with something far cleverer than I could.
